What is a Fit to Train / CA-EBS Medical?

A Fit to Train / CA-EBS medical is a doctor-led assessment for offshore personnel who need to undertake training involving compressed-air emergency breathing systems.

It considers whether there are any medical factors that could affect the worker’s ability to participate safely in the required training.

The Fit to Train assessment is separate from the routine OEUK offshore medical, although both assessments can be completed together when required.

When do I need one?

Fit to Train certification is generally renewed periodically as part of an offshore worker’s training cycle, commonly around every 4–5 years, depending on the applicable training and employer requirements.

If your OEUK medical is still valid, you may only need the standalone Fit to Train assessment.

If both are due, Marina Medicals can complete the OEUK + Fit to Train / CA-EBS combined assessment for £255.

Fit to Train alone: £105

What Happens During the Fit to Train Assessment?

The assessment is doctor-led and focuses on whether you can safely undertake the relevant offshore training involving CA-EBS. The exact assessment may vary according to your medical history and any information provided by your employer or training provider.
