Employers may require medical assessment where workers operate forklift trucks, mobile plant, construction equipment or other workplace machinery in safety-sensitive environments.
The purpose is to consider whether a health condition or functional limitation could materially interfere with the worker’s ability to operate the equipment safely.
There is no single universal medical examination for every forklift or plant operator. The assessment should reflect the equipment used, duties undertaken, workplace risk assessment and any employer or site-specific medical standard.

Where Specified
Audiometry, spirometry, ECG, exercise-fitness testing or other investigations can be added where required by the employer, site or occupational standard.
Audiometry, spirometry and ECG are not automatically required for every forklift or plant medical; additional testing should reflect the role, hazards and applicable employer requirements.
