Frequently Asked Questions
Practical information about booking, preparing for your appointment, payments, forms, cancellations and attending Marina Medicals.
Booking & Payment
How do I book a medical?
Fixed-price services can be booked directly through the Marina Medicals online booking system. If you are unsure which medical or certification pathway you need, please send us your requirements and we will advise you before booking.
Is payment required at the time of booking?
Yes. For fixed-price online appointments, payment is required at booking to confirm the appointment. A payment receipt is issued separately.
Can my employer book or pay for my medical?
Yes. Employers can arrange and fund medicals where appropriate. For employer-led or more complex occupational health requirements, please contact Marina Medicals directly.
Will I receive a receipt?
Yes. For online payments, a receipt is issued separately after payment. Employer invoicing arrangements may differ where agreed in advance.
Preparing for Your Appointment
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring original photo identification, such as a passport or driving licence, together with any documents specifically requested in your booking confirmation. If you have an existing medical condition, please also bring relevant recent medical evidence where available.
Do I need to complete any forms before my appointment?
Some medicals require a questionnaire, declaration or consent form to be completed in advance. Where forms are required, they will be sent with your booking information. Please return them by the deadline stated in your confirmation email so they can be reviewed before your appointment.
What if I have an existing medical condition?
Please provide accurate details when completing your medical questionnaire and bring the most recent relevant GP or specialist evidence where appropriate. Further information may occasionally be required before a fitness decision or certificate can be issued.
Should I bring a list of my medication?
Yes. Please bring an up-to-date list of any prescribed, over-the-counter or regular medication you take, including the name and dose where possible.
Do I need to prepare differently for a specific medical?
Yes, some assessments have additional preparation requirements. For example, you may be asked to avoid loud-noise exposure before audiometry, attend wearing spectacles rather than contact lenses, avoid emptying your bladder immediately before urine testing, or bring particular certificates or reports. Please follow the instructions in your individual booking confirmation.
Attending the Clinic
Where is Marina Medicals located?
Marina Medicals is located at Global Link, Dunleavy Drive, Cardiff CF11 0SN.
Is parking available?
Yes. Free parking is available at Global Link. Please remember to enter your vehicle registration at reception to avoid any parking charge.
What happens if I am late for my appointment?
Please arrive on time, as appointments are scheduled closely. If you are significantly late, there may not be sufficient time to complete the medical safely and your appointment may need to be rearranged.
What if I am unwell on the day of my medical?
If you are acutely unwell or develop symptoms that may affect the assessment, please contact Marina Medicals before attending. Depending on the medical and your symptoms, it may be more appropriate to reschedule.
Cancellation & Rescheduling
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Please give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
• More than 48 hours’ notice: full refund.
• Between 24 and 48 hours’ notice: 50% of the appointment fee is retained.
• Less than 24 hours’ notice, or non-attendance: the full appointment fee is retained.
• Late arrival may require the appointment to be rescheduled if there is insufficient time to complete the assessment safely.
• If Marina Medicals cancels your appointment, you will be offered an alternative appointment or a full refund.
• Exceptional circumstances may be considered at Marina Medicals’ discretion.
• This policy does not affect your statutory rights.
How do I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
Please use the cancellation or rescheduling option provided in your booking confirmation where available. If you are unable to make the change online, please contact Marina Medicals as soon as possible.
Results & Certificates
When will I receive my certificate or result?
Where the assessment is complete and the required medical standards are met, certificates or results may be issued on the day. Some assessments require additional information, testing or clinical review before a final outcome can be confirmed.
What happens if further medical information is required?
If further information is needed, Marina Medicals will explain what is required. This may include an up-to-date GP or specialist report, additional testing or clarification of an existing medical condition. A final fitness decision or certificate may be deferred until the necessary information has been reviewed.
Can you guarantee that I will pass the medical or receive a certificate?
No. Booking and attending a medical does not guarantee a particular fitness outcome or the issue of a certificate. The decision is based on the relevant medical standards, the information available and the findings of the assessment.
Who receives my medical result or certificate?
This depends on the type of medical and the applicable regulatory or employer requirements. Wherever possible, you will be informed what documentation is being issued and who it may be shared with. Medical information is handled confidentially and only disclosed where appropriate, authorised or required.
