Combined ENG1 seafarer medical and Chester Step Test where an exercise-fitness assessment is required, including the MCA pathway for seafarers with BMI above 35.
The Chester Step Test is a submaximal exercise test used to assess aerobic fitness and estimate cardiovascular capacity.
You step on and off a standardised step in time with an increasing cadence while your heart rate and perceived exertion are monitored.
It is commonly used in occupational medical assessments where evidence of adequate aerobic fitness is required.
The test is progressive. The stepping rate increases at set intervals while your response to exercise is monitored.
The assessment is stopped when the required test endpoint is reached, or earlier if there is a clinical reason to stop.
The exercise component usually takes around 6–10 minutes, although additional time is allowed for preparation, baseline measurements and recovery.
Standalone Chester Step Test: £125
If your employer or medical standard specifies a particular exercise-fitness requirement, please send us the requirement before your appointment so we can confirm the appropriate assessment pathway.
Book a standalone Chester Step Test for £125, or choose the combined medical pathway required by your employer, offshore role or maritime medical standard.
