What is an Emergency Response Team Medical?

An Emergency Response Team medical is an enhanced offshore fitness assessment for personnel who may be required to undertake physically demanding emergency-response duties.

In addition to the standard OEUK medical assessment, the pathway may require assessment of respiratory function and aerobic fitness because of the additional demands associated with emergency-response work.

ERT Requirements Can Vary

Emergency-response medical requirements can vary according to the installation, employer, role and mobilisation standard.

Marina Medicals therefore asks workers to provide any employer medical form, certification requirements or mobilisation instructions where available.

This helps ensure that the correct assessment and documentation are completed for the intended ERT role.

What Happens During the ERT Medical?

Medical Review

Medical & Occupational History

We will review your medical history, current medication and any relevant health conditions, together with the physical and operational demands of your emergency-response role.

Respiratory & Fitness Assessment

Spirometry and Chester Step Test

The assessment includes respiratory-function testing with spirometry and an aerobic-fitness assessment using the Chester Step Test, alongside the relevant OEUK medical assessment.

Certification

Certification & Further Evidence

Where the assessment is satisfactory and no further information is required, certification or documentation can usually be completed the same day.

If additional medical evidence or clarification is required, certification may need to be deferred until that information has been reviewed.
