Workplace Health Surveillance

Doctor-led health surveillance for employers where workplace exposures may affect hearing, respiratory health, skin or hand-arm function, with appropriate clinical review and escalation where required.

What is Health Surveillance?

Health surveillance is a programme of repeated health checks used where employees are exposed to workplace hazards that may cause identifiable adverse health effects.

The type and frequency of surveillance depends on the workplace exposure, risk assessment and applicable occupational-health requirements.

Marina Medicals can provide surveillance programmes for employers and arrange medical review where findings require further assessment.

Hearing Surveillance

Occupational audiometry for workers exposed to hazardous noise, with classification, review and escalation where appropriate.

Respiratory Surveillance

Spirometry and respiratory-health review for employees exposed to respiratory sensitisers, dusts or other relevant workplace hazards.

HAVS Surveillance

Tier 1 and Tier 2 hand-arm vibration surveillance for employees exposed to vibration from powered tools or equipment, with medical escalation where indicated.

Skin Surveillance

Skin-health surveillance for employees exposed to substances or working conditions associated with occupational dermatitis or other work-related skin disease.

Employer Health Surveillance Programmes

Marina Medicals can support employers requiring scheduled surveillance programmes for groups of workers, including appropriate recall intervals, clinical escalation and fitness advice where required.

How Health Surveillance Works

1. Exposure & Risk Review

Identify the Required Surveillance

Surveillance should reflect the employer’s workplace risk assessment, exposure profile and applicable health-surveillance requirements.

2. Employee Assessment

Testing & Clinical Review

Appropriate questionnaires, testing and clinical assessment are completed according to the surveillance programme.

3. Outcome & Recall

Outcome, Recall & Follow Up

Employers receive appropriate health-surveillance outcomes, with recall intervals and further medical review or escalation recommended where required.

Health surveillance does not replace workplace exposure control. It forms part of the employer’s wider risk-management arrangements.
